WHAT IS THE Sunday schedule?

9  a.m.   Morning Worship

10 a.m.  Sunday School (Christian Education Classes for all ages.)

11 a.m.  Morning Worship

What is your worship service Like?

We have two identical worship services on Sunday mornings.  Services begin at 9 and 11 a.m. and are held in the Sanctuary.  A nursery for children six weeks old until their fourth birthday is provided. An usher would be happy to escort you to the nursery.

Our order of our worship falls within the relaxed but "Traditional" genre.

We have a time of gathering up to the start of the hour.  People greet each other and welcome newcomers to the service.  The pastors are moving throughout the sanctuary to greet all worshippers.

At the hour, the pastor greets the whole congregation and makes several announcements.  Then, everyone is invited to turn to those around you and extend a greeting. This is not meant to put anyone on the spot, but does provide a moment early in the service for everyone to know they are valued in God's house.

The musicians play an instrumental selection to provide us a moment to center ourselves and to prepare for worship.  Then, the pastor offers a prayer invoking God's blessing on our worship experience.

The remainder of the service follows a weekly pattern of an opening declaration of praise by singing a hymn, affirming our faith, and glorifying God.

We have a movement toward the pastoral prayer that normally begins with a prayer hymn and concludes with the Lord's Prayer.

The next element of worship prepares us to make our offerings to God as an act of praise.  This segment includes the choir presenting an anthem of special music that lifts our hearts and praises toward God.

The last half of our worship service contains the weekly sermon presented by one of the pastors. The message is biblically-based and is often part of a thematic series that allows for a more in depth look an aspect of the spiritual life.  The service concludes with a time of response to the spoken Word that includes a final hymn followed by the pastor offering a blessing as we are sent forth.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The Communion table is open to all who wish to partake in this meal of grace.  The first Sunday order of worship is slightly abbreviated to allow time for Communion.

WHAT ABOUT MY CHILDREN?

Perry United Methodist Church is known for our exceptional ministry with children!  You can learn more about our overall ministry with children by clicking here to be taken to the children's ministry page on our website.

During Sunday Morning Worship

Nursery during Sunday School and Worship

We are blessed to have a team of child care workers who have served us for many years.  They love and care for each child as if they are their very own.  The nursery is provided for children who are 6 weeks old up to their 4th birthday.  Once a child is four years old they go with their parents for worship.

During 9 a.m. Worship

Children sit with their parents and engage in the worship service.  A "Quiet Bag" is available with activities a child can do quietly during worship.  You may ask an usher for a "Quiet Bag."

During 11 a.m. Worship

Our nursery is available for children 6 weeks old up to their 4th birthday.

We have Children's Church for children 4 years old through finishing the First Grade.  See below for more details.

The Who, Where, How of Children's Church.

  • Children’s Church is designed for children 4 years of age-1st Grade.
  • Children must be fully potty trained to attend.
  • Children should bring their Bible each week to Children’s Church.
  • Children must be checked into Children’s Church just like they were checked into the nursery when they were babies.
  • The check-in time for Children’s Church is 10:40-11:10 am on Sunday mornings.
  • When your family arrives for church, please escort your child down the stairs at the front corner of the Fellowship Hall to the half door of the Back Porch in the basement. There will be a sign in pad on the ledge of the door for you to check them in.
  • If your child attends Sunday School, you must pick them up from Sunday School and bring them and check them in to Children’s Church. We will not gather children from Sunday School rooms.
  • We ask that parents come to the half door at noon to check kids out. The half door will remain locked and children will be checked out by the adult leaders.
  • On  the first Sunday of the month, the children will be brought back in to the sanctuary for Communion and then will find their parents and sit with them in the pew.

HOW DO I GET 'PLUGGED IN' AT PUMC?

Everyone is welcomed here on behalf of Jesus Christ.  Like Jesus, we are very comfortable with persons taking a "Come and See" approach.  That is, they come and check us out with no pressure or commitment required.

If PUMC feels like the church that God is leading you and you want to get further involved, please feel free to speak to one of the pastors or staff. We like to get to know you and make suggestions based on those conversations.

One way you can reach out is by emailing or calling the church office. Clicking here takes you to the staff page of our website. Click on the photo of the staff member to send an email. The church office phone number is 478-987-1852.

If and when you get interested in actually joining our church, please reach out to our pastor.  We receive people into church membership by transfer from another Christian  church, or by a profession of faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

We are a no pressure church. We invite you to come and make yourself at home.  You will know when God is leading you to take the next step.

What do united methodists believe?
